Release of the Rainbow Resource for Victorian Councils

The VLGA recently secured funding through the Department of Premier and Cabinet to develop an updated Rainbow Resource for Victorian Councils.

The Rainbow Resource is intended to provide guidance to councils looking to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse and intersex (LGBTIQ) inclusion in their local communities. It showcases several examples of creative, innovative and imaginative work being undertaken by local councils.

This work would not have been possible without the contribution of the previous VLGA Rainbow Working Group (2015-16) or case studies provided by several Victorian councils. Jason Rostant Consulting developed the updated resource with support from council, agency and community contributors.

The resource includes information for local governments on LGBTIQ inclusion, inclusive language, inclusive practice and the law, and supporting intersectionality across a range of different community groups.

The VLGA intends the Rainbow Resource to be a valuable tool for Victorian councils, supporting the crucial work that they do in promoting LGBTIQ inclusion.

The Rainbow Resource for Victorian Councils can be accessed digitally on the VLGA’s website
